Interview with Dr. Diego Fridman on Medical Geology and Public Health in Mining Regions
As a multidisciplinary discipline, medical geology is aimed at strengthening the interactions and communications between the geosciences, biomedical and public health communities to promote a better understanding of the role that geoenvironmental and natural risk factors may have on the development of health problems in humans and other animals.
In this interview, Dr. Diego Fridman (President of the Argentine Association for Medical Geology), talks about his experiences as a physician, epidemiologist, and medical geology expert working with communities living around mining sites in Argentina.
Dr. Fridman, who is also the Immediate Past President of the International Medical Geology Association (IMGA), presents an elegant example of how medical geologists and public health professionals have engaged efforts to understand, characterize, and communicate to the community the links and roles of this particular occupational and geoenvironmental practice.
