About the event
The 11th International Conference on Medical Geology (MEDGEO2025) was held at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, from July 27 to August 2, 2025, in collaboration with the 13th International Symposium on Environmental Geochemistry (ISEG). Medical geologists from more than 15–17 countries convened to share the latest research and to strengthen medical geology as an interdisciplinary field addressing climate, environmental, geochemical, and public-health challenges worldwide.
Organized by Prof. Dr. Eduardo Anselmo Ferreira da Silva, Dr. Carla Patinha, Dr. Nuno Durães (Portugal) and Prof. Chaosheng Zhang (Ireland), and hosted by the Department of Geosciences, University of Aveiro, with the GeoBioTec Research Unit (Portuguese Science Foundation), the scientific meeting—under the motto “Challenges and Solutions to Promote Earth Sustainability and Human Health”, brought together 120+ researchers for plenary lectures, 64 oral presentations, and 46 posters.
This edition recognized Dr. Olle Selinus for his pioneering contributions to Medical Geology and reaffirmed our shared responsibility to advance the science through research, capacity building, and collaboration.
At the Closing Ceremony, organizers announced that the 12th International Conference on Medical Geology (MEDGEO2027) will be held in Brazil. The full proceedings are now available for download below.
